Simple life with primitive blue
Flew from NRT to Manila, stayed one night, took another flight to Palawan island, got on metal fleet bus, and transferred to banker boat and finally landed to the Club Noah resoart island. It took one and a half day to get to the place for new year holiday. All the blue surroundings made me feel I may be able to reach the sky as easy as I can touch pure blue water just in front of me. The resort owns the whole island. Total 50 cottages all face to the emerald ocean. Not only the beauty of the nature but the hospitality of the people in the resort was something that I have never experienced before and really touched me! Free beer dance party at New year’s eve, private family picnic dinner, and short excursion to small town. Friendly stuffs served us inclusive activities with warm heart. Contrary to Japanese voluntary or American assertive service, Philipine’s hospitality was more devoting and unaffected maybe because of their nature-rich environment and simplicity of their life.
成田からマニラに飛び、マニラ一泊、翌朝小型双発機でパラワン島に飛び、フィリピン風バスに乗り継ぎ、バンカー・ボートでようやくクラブノアリゾート島に到着。新年を迎える場所にたどり着くだけで、丸一日半かかってしまいました。島のいたるところに在る青い景色に囲まれていると、目の前に広がる紺碧の海に簡単に手が届くように、頭上に広がる青い空に手が届くんじゃないかと錯覚するくらい眩しいほどブルー。（12月にも関わらず！！）島全体が一つのリゾートホテルになっていて、50ある全てのコテージが海上に浮いています。いまだ見たことのない自然の美しさに驚嘆したばかりでなく、いまだ経験したことのない島のスタッフ達のもてなしの心（大晦日ビール飲み放題ダンスパーティー・1家族限定波打ち際ディナー・タイタイ村への小旅行）に感動でした！日本の無作為的なそれとも違う、アメリカの積極的なそれとも違う、フィリピンの献身的でいて気取らない（多分に豊かな自然と生活の質素さからくる）ホスピタリティーがとても印象に残った旅でした。

Magician of Light: Ingo Maurer
Just quick announce. Now all Ingo Maurer's 40 yrs life work can be seen at his exhibit, Light: Reaching for the Moon. When I went through all his works, it realized me that he is more than just a designer, but he is, rather than, an artist with a sense of humor. If you are interested in fusion of technology and philosophy, you've gotta check it out!

お知らせ。光の魔術師と呼ばれる「インゴ・マウラー」の40年に渡る創作活動を全て見ることのできる展示会「Light: Reaching for the Moon」が開催中。彼の作品群を見て改めて思ったけど、彼はデザイナーというよりもむしろ、ユーモアセンスを持ったアーティストである気がした。技術と哲学の融合に興味のある方にぜひお勧めです。9月18日（月）まで開催中。

Will be the next mission for Tom?

Am I the only one who felt Tom became old? This is not only because his appearance looks old but also the atmosphere of this movie made me feel he was not so energetic as what he used to be six years ago. I just felt MI series needs to be more action-oriented-movie, that’s something all the audience around the world expects for this movie and Tom as secret agent. I just do not want this series to be the same as Alien, if there will be another mission to be assigned to him.
なんかトム・クルーズ年とったように見えたのは俺だけかな？それって前作の6年前に比べて、彼のルックスが単純に老けて見えただけじゃなくて、映画の雰囲気自体が彼に翳りを与えてたと思うな。ミッション・インポッシブルのシリーズはもっとアクションを前面にだしてほしかったなぁ。だってそれこそが世界中の観客がこのシリーズ、そしてシークレット・エージェントとしてのトムに期待するものでしょう。もう一度トムにミッションが与えられることがあるとしたら、エイリアンと同じ末路を辿らないことを祈りましょう。

A poem without a word
“In my work I try to emphasize suggestion rather than description, much like the philosophy of Japanese Haiku poetry. A few elements can evoke a whole world of imagination. A small amount of tangible subject matter has infinite possibilities.” Photographer, Michael Kenna, explains his work is alike Haiku, Japanese short poem, in his statement of the photo exhibit, “Conversation with the Land.” The series of his photographs, taken in Japan, clearly satisfied the two reasons why I like this photographer best in the world. One reason is his experienced technique of fine print. And also I am attracted his minimalism condensed into the square photo paper. Composition with a slight tension, a few carefully chosen elements, and appropriate contrast to eliminate unnecessary objects, all these grammar of photography is working behind his series of photos and the final result turns out just like a Haiku that a few elements can evoke a whole world of imagination as he expressed.

「作品を通じて私は、日本の俳句の精神に通ずるように、描写することよりもむしろ暗示することに重きを置いています。数少ない要素が想像の世界を掻き立てる。少数の実在する対象物が無限の可能性を秘めている。」写真家マイケル・ケンナは自身の写真展「土地との会話」において自分の作品を俳句に喩えています。 日本で撮影された一連の彼の写真を見ていると、自分が彼を最も好きな写真家に選んだのは、次の二つの理由からなんだなと妙に納得させられてしまいました。ひとつは卓越したプリントの技術が生み出す美しい写真。それに加えて、正方形の印画紙に凝縮された彼のミニマリズムです。わずかな緊張感を伴った構図、細心の注意により選ばれたいくつかの構成要素、不要なものを取捨選択する計算されたコントラスト等、これらの写真の修辞法が彼の作品の根底にはあり、その結果彼の写真は、いくつかの要素が無限の想像を掻き立てる、ひとつの俳句となるのです。
